Double Victory for CIU Handball Teams

As the DEM’S Construction Handball Senior League season concluded following the final series, Cyprus International University (CIU) Women’s and Men’s Handball Teams achieved great success by clinching the championship titles in the league.

Tarkan Kayaş, the CIU Sports Affairs Deputy Director described the success of the CIU Men’s Handball Team, which won the championship despite having a particularly young average age, as “an achievement that deepens the meaning of victory.” Kayaş said, “Our men’s team is made up of young talents. Through intensive and disciplined training, they secured both the Federation Cup and the Super League Championship.”
Four players from the CIU Men’s Handball Team were invited to the Turkish National Beach Handball Team, and six players were called up to the Turkish U18, U16, and U14 national teams, marking a significant achievement at the national level.

The women’s team also attracted attention by winning all the trophies of the last five years undefeated. Kayaş stated, “Despite the departure of some key players, we remained at the top with our young squad. Bringing all the trophies to our trophy cabinet and maintaining this title is very valuable to us.”
Emphasizing that the athletes’ psychological resilience was as influential as their physical preparation in their success, Kayaş said, “This double championship has gone down in history as an unforgettable victory for our university.”

Kayaş highlighted that these achievements were not limited to trophies and medals alone, saying, “This also demonstrates our students’ determination, team spirit, and discipline. The balanced management of academic life and sports by our athletes not only inspires other students but also strengthens our university’s claim in sports.”
Concluding his remarks with thanks to all athletes, Kayaş said, “As the CIU family, we support every step our athletes take and are grateful to them for the value they bring to our university with their achievements.”

Nisan Atay from the CIU Handball Team was named the most valuable player of the final series. At the ceremony held after the matches, Kosovo Handball Federation President Edin Kogeci, General Secretary Muhamet Arifi, Kosovo/Prizren Handball Club President Süreya Salçini and Vice President Erol Çikoli, along with the TRNC Handball Federation President Ediz Arıkan, presented trophies and medals to the teams that ranked.
