CIU hosted children with special needs
On International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD), CIU Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation students came together with children with special needs
Cyprus International University (CIU) Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation organized an event within the scope of December 3rd International Day of Persons with Disabilities in cooperation with Nicosia Special Education and Job Training Center.
At the event held at CIU Arena, Assist. Prof. Dr. Hülya Özbeşer, Chairperson of the Department Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation stated the social relationship between the characteristic features of individuals and the society's perception of these form the basis of understanding the significance of this week, and said, "we will continue to organize such events to procure the social participation of children with special needs."
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Soner Öyken, Assistant Director of Nicosia Special Education and Job Training Center, expressed his satisfaction with the event organized by CIU Faculty of Health Sciences and noted that their cooperation with CIU will continue in the future as well.
The first event held within the scope of the day was a performance by the special education students choir of the Nicosia Special Education and Job Training Center's which was followed by a live music concert by CIU students.
The event continued with CIU Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Lecturer Burcu Dericioğlu Tokgöz performing 'Body Awareness Exercises' for children that was accompanied by music.
At the end of the event, tug of war, hand printing and face painting activities were performed, ensuring that the invited students had a pleasant time throughout the day.
CIU Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation (both English and Turkish program) students took an active role in all activities, ensuring that students with special needs benefited from the activities as much as possible.
