CIU 2024-25 Student Council Representatives Elected
The results of elections held to determine the student representatives for the 2024-2025 Academic year held by the Cyprus International University (CIU) Dean of Students, Student Council Representatives Election Board have been announced.
Based on the results of the election held at the university, the following students gained nomination for the respective positions: Student Council and Executive Board President Ahmet Bora Bayramoğlu, Student Council and Executive Board Vice President Ahmad Mahmoud Shawi, Student Council Supervisory Board President Hakkı Emre Göğebakan, and Student Council Supervisory Board Members Yağız Emre Yılmazer, Sıla Toklu, Zeynep Topal and Sumbi Leandra Chaquice.
CIU Student Dean Assoc. Prof. Dr. Osman Emiroğlu stated that their aim with the elections held within the university is to provide students a culture of democratic participation, and said, “In this way, our students will be able to participate in the decisions to be taken on every issue regarding the university and also be able to advise. They will also have the chance to convey student problems and requests to the university administration.”
Emiroğlu also drew attention to the fact that in addition to the Council Presidency, the Council Executive Board and Supervisory Board Presidency and their members were also elected in the Student Council Representative Elections. He shared the information that “The Student Council Representative Elections consisted of the election process of students who were candidates for Faculties, Colleges, English Preparatory School and School of Foreign Languages and the Institute of Postgraduate Education-Teaching and Research.”
Emiroğlu pointed out that the students who won the election gained the right to represent the University's Student Council throughout the 2024-2025 academic year, and said, "Our elected student representatives will convey students' requests and needs to the administration and act as their mouth-piece."
Emiroğlu stated that students had the chance to express themselves, demonstrate their leadership skills and promote their vision by exercising their democratic rights throughout the election process, and he also stated that he has full confidence that the students who won the election will contribute to many creative projects during their term in office.
