“Accessible tourism” should be encouraged in North Cyprus
Prof. Dr. Orhan Uludağ, Director of School of Tourism and Hotel Management of Cyprus International University (CIU), stated that accessible tourism should be encouraged in Northern Cyprus at the event titled "A World for All: Promoting Accessible Tourism and Awareness in Northern Cyprus".
In his speech in the conference hall at CIU Çevik Uraz Center, Uludağ gave information about the necessary conditions for accessible tourism and noted that the understanding of accessible tourism is of vital importance in the sector.
Giving examples about the difficulties faced by disabled individuals, focusing especially on the inclusive social model, Uludağ talked about the importance of the tourism industry approaching this issue urgently.
Uludağ also pointed out that the arrangements that can be made to eliminate the difficulties faced by especially disabled individuals in the sector will not create a loss of income and said, "It is important to ensure the urgent adaptation of international standards in the tourism sector in our country."
Speaking at the event, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mete Ünal Girgen also talked about the special context of accessible tourism in Northern Cyprus and the difficulties that disabled individuals face on a daily basis.
In his speech, Girgen stated that the seminar was an important step in raising awareness and promoting inclusiveness in the tourism sector, and expressed that they hoped this event would contribute to the ongoing dialogue on accessible tourism.
