CIU Continues Its Rise in THE Impact Rankings

Cyprus International University (CIU) has demonstrated a significant rise in the global rankings, according to the 2025 results of the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings. These rankings evaluate universities based on their contributions to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In this prestigious index, which prioritizes contributions to sustainable development in higher education, CIU achieved notable success both in the overall ranking and in several thematic areas.

THE Impact Rankings assess not only the academic performance of universities but also their contributions to society, the environment, and global goals. In the evaluation involving more than 1,900 universities, CIU stood out globally by reinforcing its commitment to sustainability through concrete projects and academic work.

Rising to the 301–400 band in the overall ranking, CIU also performed strongly in several sustainability areas. Ranking 29th in the world in the category of Responsible Consumption and Production, the efforts of the university in environmental awareness received international recognition. In the category of Sustainable Cities and Communities, CIU was ranked in the 201–300 band, highlighting its impactful projects that contribute to the quality of community life. Furthermore, it reached the 101–200 band in the Affordable and Clean Energy category, demonstrating its commitment to energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy. The university was also placed in the 301–400 band in the categories of Good Health and Well-being and Partnerships for the Goals.

Success of the CIU is a result of the sustainability principles integrated into its educational activities, the environmental and social projects conducted through its research centers, and its sustainable campus policies.
Commenting on the achievement, CIU General Secretary Assoc. Prof. Dr. Asil Azimli emphasized that the university’s rise in this significant ranking is no coincidence. He stated, “At CIU, we embrace the sustainable development goals as a vision and operate with this vision in every area — from scientific research to campus infrastructure, from educational content to social projects. The results we have achieved in the THE Impact Rankings are a clear indication that our university is moving in the right direction on an international level.
