“Yeni Yıl Konseri”

Visiting Cyprus as guests of Cyprus International University, musicians from the State Opera and Ballet of Ankara gave a New Year Concert for students and staff.

The first of the two concerts performed by eight musicians from the State Opera and Ballet of Ankara took place at CIU’s Çevik Uraz Conference Hall. The second concert was staged at Levent Schools/ Kindergarten performance hall. The artists performed 16 pieces din an unforgettable musical feast for spectators.

Cyprus International University Acting Rector Prof. Hikmet Seçim as well as the academic administrators, lecturers and a great number of students were present during the concert. The audience enjoyed pieces such as, “Papatya Gibisin”, “Kalamış”, “Dicitencello Vuie”, and “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina”,“Gökte Yıldız Ay Misun”,“Aşkın Kanunu” and the Turkish Cypriot folk song “Dillirga”. “Dillirga” was performed a second time during the concert at CIU on the request of the audience.

An impressive crowd attended the second concert which was opened to the public at the Levent School and Kindergarten performance hall. The musicians performed the same 16 pieces as with the concert at CIU. Having performed an unforgettable concert for Cypriot music lovers, the musicians were presented flowers and a framed CIU insignia that was integrated into a pattern of local handmade lace needle work.

Speaking to the CIU News Agency after the concert, the soprano singer Gül Seçkin, and the baritone singer Serkan Karadere expressed their gratitude to the CIU administration for having been very warmly received. The artists expressed that they had very much enjoyed performing such a concert in North Cyprus, and that they wished to come back to North Cyprus.
