WHAT ARE CIU INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS LISTENING TO?
We asked some of the international students at Cyprus International University what they like to listen to, and the kinds of music which are most popular in their home countries

Usually I listen to R&B music, dance music and club music. I like to listen to this kind of music because I like dancing very much and I also like clubbıng. It makes me feel good. When I am sad I want to listen to slow music. I prefer to listen to music which is popular and new. Turkmen people usually listen to traditional music.
I like to listen hip-hop, R&B and pop. I like this type of music because it is very enjoyable and usually other people my age listen to ıt as well. I always listen to same kind of music whether I am sad or happy, it doesn’t matter. In Kenya people like to listen to R&B, hip-hop and pop music. We have traditional music too, but nobody is interested in our traditional music.
I usually like all kinds of music, like R&B, rap, techno, electro and dance music. I like to listen to this kind of music because it is nice. You can dance and you can jump. I like dancing a lot, it is relaxing for me. When my mood changes I change my music style too. For example, when I am happy I want to listen to hip-hop and when I am angry I want to listen to rock. In Tanzania we have a special kind of traditional in the Swahili language.
Usually I like to listen to rap, pop music and rock music. It doesn’t matter for me, but it depends on my mood. If I want to relax I listen to pop music because it is not boring and it makes me feel good and happy. When I am sad I usually listen to rap music because I think rap music has very good lyrics and this is really helps me when I am sad. When I am happy also like to listen to light rock. Kazakhstani people like to listen club music because a lot of young people like club life and this kind of music is very popular in Kazakhstan.
I am a R&B fan. It is my personality. I am football player and I always listen to music before the match. When I am angry I want to listen to rap music but when I am happy I definitely listen to hip-hop. South African people are different because South Africa is a diverse country and everybody listens to different types of music. We have traditional music too but it is not very popular in my country.
I like to listen to good club music and I listen to this kind of music every day. I also like to listen to electro music. I used to listen to rap music two years ago, but now I prefer listening to club music. I love these kinds of songs. When I am sad I try to listen to slow music but when I am angry I want to turn the volume up. Azerbaijani people usually listen to their traditional music. Most of the young generation listen to Azeri rap stars.
I like to listen to modern rock. I think it is the most entertaining music, and when I listen to it I feel good and relaxed. When I am happy I want to listen to rock again with the volume up. When I am sad I prefer to listen to slow music. Zambian people are close to hip-hop, they like listening to hip-hop music a lot.

I prefer pop music and a little bit of soft rock. I am not the kind of person who likes hardcore gangster rap. I like to listen to music. You know, the kind of pop-songs which pop up inside your head. You want to jump and make a lot of noise. When I am sad I definitely listen to Christian music but when I am happy I like to listen to rock music. In Nigeria we have traditional music, but Nigeria is a big country so Nigerian people listen to many different types of music.

I listen to all types of music but I normally like smooth, slow music. I like to listen to this kind of music because it has good lyrics. When I am happy, I want to listen to disco music with nice beats and when I am sad I listen to slow music. Nigerian people like disco music because they love parties. In France the music is similar to English music but the language is French. There is jazz, there is hip-hop and there is rap, but they are all in French.

Usually I like to listen classical rock like the Beatles, or and jazz like Frank Sinatra. I don’t really like modern music because I think most of the best musicians are oldies. The oldies are my favorite. When I am sad and I want to be happy I put some Beatles songs on and this makes me feel good. Uzbek people generally listen to classical Uzbek music. There are many traditional Uzbek performers in Uzbekistan, but the young generation is not interested in them.

I usually mix different types of music. When I am sad I like listening to soul music but when I am happy I prefer to listen to dance music. I have no favorite singers – I can listen to any singer, it depends on my mood. In Zimbabwe we have African music and we have traditional music with drums. I enjoy listening to that as well because it reminds me of my own country and my home.

My favourite music is 70s classic rock, and my second favourite is my own traditional music. Sometimes I listen to other kinds of music too. For example when I woke up this morning I put on a song by a rock group called Coldplay. When I am sad I usually listen to Beethoven. The young generation of Iranian people usually listen to hip-hop and especially rock musıc. Young people don’t always listen to Persian traditional music, but there are some exceptions.
